The Verizon Scholarship Program

As a champion of education in the communities we serve, Verizon believes it has a responsibility to ensure that the next generation has the opportunity to succeed in the global economy. The path to that success is in higher education, and we are proud to clear that path for our employees by granting scholarships to their children. Through a partnership with Scholarship of America, the Verizon Foundation will award up to 250 four-year scholarships to high school seniors who are children of Verizon employees in the United States, and are planning to attend a four-year college or university in the fall, 2008.

Students who earn a scholarship receive $5,000 per year, renewable for three additional years for a maximum of $20,000 over four years. Scholarship America selects awardees on the basis of financial need, with consideration also given to academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal.

Since the program’s inception in 2001, the Verizon Foundation has awarded more than $26 million in scholarships to children of Verizon employees.
