Disaster Relief Incentive Program (DRIP)

The Verizon Foundation Disaster Relief Incentive Program provides active employees with the opportunity to earn up to a maximum of $1,000 per year in matching funds, matched 1:1, to designated disaster relief organizations as identified by the Verizon Foundation in response to specific natural disasters including floods, hurricanes, fires and other extraordinary human disaster events as identified by the Verizon Foundation.

Here are some frequently asked questions about the Verizon Foundation Disaster Incentive Program:
- Can funds go directly to an employee who may need financial assistance due to a personal disaster -- such as a fire in the home?
- Are retirees or vendors eligible to participate in the Disaster Relief Incentive Program?
- If I've collected donations through a fundraiser, will this money be matched by the Foundation?
- If I've set up a collection box to raise money for victims of a disaster, can I get the Foundation to match the amount of money I raise?
- If I've collected money from fellow co-workers, family members, friends, and/or customers of Verizon, are these donations eligible for a match?
- Are monies collected from local bake sales, t-shirt sales, ribbon sales, etc. eligible for a Foundation match?
- Under the Disaster Relief Incentive Program, what is the minimum employee gift amount eligible for matching funds from the Foundation?
- Can funds go directly to an employee who may need financial assistance due to a personal disaster -- such as a fire in the home?
- No. The Foundation can only give to US 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organizations or International equivalents, the Foundation cannot donate directly to individuals. The Verizon Foundation may be able to recommend charitable organizations where an employee may seek assistance.
- Are retirees or vendors eligible to participate in the Disaster Relief Incentive Program?
- No. Only active Verizon employees who work, full or part-time, permanent or temporary, are eligible.
- If I've collected donations through a fundraiser, will this money be matched by the Foundation?
- No. Only personal gifts made by active Verizon employees are eligible to be matched by the Foundation.
- If I've set up a collection box to raise money for victims of a disaster, can I get the Foundation to match the amount of money I raise?
- No. Only individual active Verizon employee donations are eligible for the match. Active Verizon employees, who wish to participate in a relief effort, must individually send their donation to the designated organization and then register their gift with the Foundation to receive the match.
- If I've collected money from fellow co-workers, family members, friends, and/or customers of Verizon, are these donations eligible for a match?
- No. Only individual active Verizon employee contributions are eligible for a match.
- Are monies collected from local bake sales, t-shirt sales, ribbon sales, etc. eligible for a Foundation match?
- No. Only individual active Verizon employee contributions made directly to the Foundation's designated disaster relief campaign partners are eligible for a match.
- Under the Disaster Relief Incentive Program, what is the minimum employee gift amount eligible for matching funds from the Foundation?
- The minimum gift amount eligible for matching funds under this program is $25.00.
Criteria for Consideration in Activating a DRIP Campaign:
Disaster within United States:
- Scale, scope and need for humanitarian assistance as confirmed by identified disaster relief partner agencies opening a special fundraising appeal that specifically addresses the disaster
- Impact on employees and the communities where they live; the amount of business Verizon does in the affected area; and the assessment of the VZ external affairs team of the need for / impact of the activation of the DRIP program
- Verizon’s corporate response, i.e. Verizon is participating in recovery or disaster relief efforts
International Disaster:
- Scale, scope and need for humanitarian assistance as confirmed by disaster relief partner agencies opening a special fundraising appeal that specifically addresses the disaster
- Alignment with US policies toward foreign governments
- Impact on employees and communities where Verizon does business
- Verizon has a workforce in the impacted community or country
- Impacted area is of significant importance to employees or customers - Verizon’s corporate response, i.e. Verizon is participating in recovery or disaster relief efforts
