Employee Collection Drives

Throughout the year, we ask Verizon employees and retirees to share their time and expertise helping nonprofits and programs that support our key initiatives - education and literacy and domestic violence prevention and recovery. For example:

  • Through Shower for the Shelter, Verizon employees donated more than $450,000 worth of new and unused clothing, personal care products and household items to domestic violence survivors and their families in April 2009. Verizon Foundation and the National Network to End Domestic Violence Fund sponsored the drive.
  • The Tools for School campaign in July 2009 gave Verizon employees the opportunity to donate much-needed school supplies to schools and non-profit organizations throughout the US. An estimated $500,000 worth of supplies were donated by Verizon employees, with more than 1,500 Verizon volunteers taking part in the campaign.
  • Season's Readings is a holiday tradition that calls on employees to collect and donate books for schools, libraries and literacy organizations. Since 2001, we've donated more than two million books, and in 2008, with the help of 450 Verizon locations and 870 volunteers, we collected 130,000 books with 30,000 coming from the online partnership with First Book.
