Massachusetts Nonprofits Receive Verizon Foundation Grant for Domestic Violence Prevention and Survivor Support

Thirteen nonprofit agencies tackling the difficult challenges of domestic violence across the state of Massachusetts received a $160,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation. They will use the funds for education, advocacy, support and prevention initiatives.

Verizon New England President Donna Cupelo presented the grants in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month to Holyoke, Massachusetts Mayor Michael Sullivan.

New Tele-Health Care Project to Provide Dental Care to Underserved Communities in California

Pilot Program Funded by Verizon Foundation Helps Domestic Violence Victims Use Technology to Protect Vital Information

More than four hundred foster-care students within the Twin Rivers Unified School District will be able to receive free dental care thanks to a new telemedicine project created jointly by the California Dental Association Foundation, University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and the California HealthCare Foundation with start-up funding from Verizon.

Afterschool Alliance National Kick Off Features Thinkfinity Demonstration

Fourteen million children in the United States (26 percent), including 40,000 kindergarten children, are on their own when the school day ends. That's why the Afterschool Alliance, a national organization dedicated to advocating for more investment in afterschool programs, and the U.S. Department of Education kicked off the annual "Lights on Afterschool" rally on Oct. 6 in Washington, D.C.

The National Family Justice Center Alliance (NFJCA) announced the launch of a pilot program, funded by a grant from the Verizon Foundation, to help victims of domestic violence protect and store vital legal and financial information via electronic safety deposit boxes. The announcement was made on Oct. 1 at the Family Justice Center of Hillsborough County, Fla., one of the program's pilot locations. read more >>
