Verizon Foundation Resource Center - Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The Verizon Foundation is committed to developing partnerships within your community. With an emphasis on new technology applications in education and literacy, health and human services and community technology, our focus is on helping to close the gaps in technology - between those who have access to computers and those who do not. Verizon Foundation Resource Center training partners provide a range of business and technology classes, and other learning resources for qualified 501(c)(3) organizations.

Q:  Why did Verizon Foundation decide to change its training programs?
A:
At Verizon we believe that with the right business knowledge, nonprofit organizations can do more with resources that are often in short supply. Our new training partners were selected based on their ability to deliver a wide range of online classes and content across a broad spectrum of business and technology disciplines.

Q:  What are the benefits of the Verizon Foundation Resource Center?
A:
Simply put, the ability to find a wealth of useful information in one place. Our new Resource Center is designed to make it easy to access a variety of best-in-class training options using one simple set of tools. Clear descriptions and a state-of-the-art search capability make it possible for nonprofits to find programs and resources to meet their unique management and operating objectives.

Q:  How do I register for a training class?
A:
Simply click on the title of the class that interests you and go directly to the online registration page.

Q:  How much is the fee for a training class?
A:
Fees will vary for online and offline training or seminars depending on the provider. All fees will be clearly indicated on the registration page. Nonprofits will be responsible for paying any registration or tuition fees for their employees who choose to attend a training class.

Q:  Can anyone attend a training class?
A:
The Resource Center training partners offer classes for employees of qualified 501(c)(3) organizations.

Q:  Who are the Verizon Foundation Resource Center training partners?
A:
Five partners provide content and learning resources for nonprofits through the Resource Center: The Communications Network, CompuMentor, the home of TechSoup.org, ePhilanthropy, NPower and The Volunteer Consulting Group.

Q:  How can I learn more about the Resource Center's training partners?
A:
To learn more visit http://foundation.verizon.com/resourcecenter/directory.shtml or see the Partner Directory on our home page.

Q:  Why were these partners selected by Verizon Foundation?
A:
We selected this exclusive list of content and service providers for their proven track record in providing best-in-class training and knowledge networks for the nonprofit community. Our five partners are leaders in their respective areas of expertise. Together they offer a comprehensive set of skills and resources to answer almost any technology training need.

Q:  Why did you decide on partnering with only five organizations?
A:
Because the Verizon Foundation Resource Center is a new undertaking, we wanted to start the program with a manageable number of partners who can easily collaborate twice yearly to compare notes and discuss trends and patterns they see among nonprofits seeking training or research information. Eventually, these collaborative meetings will help Verizon Foundation to appropriately enhance its training platform and make it even more effective.

Q:  How does an organization become a Verizon Foundation training partner?
A:
An organization must offer training locally and nationally in order to be considered for partnership. Beyond that, we look at organizations that have a proven track record in providing best-in-class training and knowledge networks for the nonprofit community.

Q:  Will you consider adding additional partners in the future?
A:
We are constantly evaluating new training partners to find the best providers of business and technology classes for the nonprofit community. When we find resources offering unique programs and learning tools, we will consider them for possible addition to our roster.

Q:  Will the training topics be changed in the future?
A:
Training offerings may change based on availability and feedback from our nonprofit users.
